Wil;liam Wardle |
Wardle, William enlisted at age 44 Mar 2nd 1865
William Wardle arrived in New York from Liverpool, England on December 31, 1855 at age 39. He
and his wife, Charlotte Voss Wardle, age 33, emigrated on the ship the Emerald Isle and it lists William's occupation as a
tailor. The ship's Master was Gen. B. Cornish. William was born in England in Big Ashby and was baptized on Nov. 12, 1843
at age 25 so we think he was born on April 22, 1817 although family records list his year as 1815 but the tombstone is inscribed
1817. He married Charlotte Voss in September 1842 in Leicester County of Leicestershire, England. They renounced Queen Victoria
and left Liverpool with their intent to become citizens of the United States of America. William had 1 brother and 2 sisters,
names unknown but they were all from Leicestershire, England.
They had 1 child in Leicester, England who died at age 1 year and 3 months. They lived in Indiana
for a short time and had their second child, William "Willie" Agijah who was born in Boone County Indiana and died in Tippecanoe
at age 17 years. We don't know what prompted them to move to Tipp City, Ohio. On April 10, 1861 Charlotte Wardle bought lot
#251 on the corner of N. 6th St. and W. Plum St. in Tippecanoe. They moved in on May 6, 1862 and their daughter, Olivah Ann
(my ancester) was born the very next day. William worked as a tailor for A. Henke in Tippecanoe.
