Saxon says at Weldon Rail Road that Bli Nix and J A Youngblood, under orders, were off the front line and the company held in reserve at Petersburg, company K got a pass at 11:30 for one hour and promptly returned, while the rest of the regiment was ordered in haste on the right near Weldon Rail Road, a sergeant left behind to bring men back sent me and five others with a corporal to where our regiment was said to be and we were directed to go, and when we entered the lines, we was knocked senseless, helpless, and speechless by an exploding shell
Saxons description of wound; I was struck by a shell, a piece going through my foot and a piece struck me on the shin bone and on the head and suffered from nothing but my foot and leg until March 1865 when I was taken with small pox and sent to Raleigh NC there and came near dying on the place where I was struck on the head then became a running soar continuously, to this day pieces of bone have come out and has caused the loss of my hearing
